Climate in Crisis: Environmental Change in the Indigenous Americas

Feb 14, 2020 – Jan 10, 2021
200 Eastern Pkwy, Brooklyn, NY 11238, USA

“The American Indian is of the soil, whether it be the region of forests, plains, pueblos, or mesas,” writes the Oglala Sioux chief Luther Standing Bear in his 1933 book, Land of the Spotted Eagle. A display of more than 60 works from the Brooklyn Museum’s Arts of the Americas collection, pulled from nearly 3,000 years of Native American art, illustrates the sacred relationship between nature and the continents’ indigenous people, exploring how they have honored and understood the environment, while also looking at their response to the ongoing threat of climate change. —J.V.
