It’s said that what the Met is to opera the Paper Mill Playhouse is to musicals—the gold standard. There’s a lot of buzz around Paper Mill’s latest, Chasing Rainbows, by Marc Acito, David Libby, and Tina Marie Casamento. It tells the story of young Frances Gumm, a vaudeville trouper who finds her way to MGM, is renamed Judy Garland, and lands the role of Dorothy in a movie like no other. Even Liza (as in Minnelli) has given the show a thumbs-up. —L.J.
