Cecilia Vicuña: Seehearing the Enlightened Failure

Mar 18 – July 11, 2021
Av. de la Constitucion, 23, 28931 Móstoles, Madrid, Spain

When the military coup in Chile established a dictatorship in 1973, Chilean poet and artist Cecilia Vicuña was a young woman. As an act of political resistance she began to write poetry, and to connect language to art. Today, living between Santiago and New York, Vicuña is committed to environmentalism and the issue of gender disparity, a combination of causes referred to as eco-feminism. In this retrospective, her art, documents, and personal ephemera are on view for the first time. —E.C.
