Pompeii, an ancient Roman city suspended in time, meets the Pacific Palisades! The Getty Villa is a museum modeled after the Villa of Papyri, which was buried when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D.. Thought to have been the most luxurious home in ancient Rome, the Villa was rediscovered in the 1750s and is still under excavation. Presenting previously buried artifacts alongside papyrus scrolls unfurled, this exhibit of the Villa’s interior is for classicists and amateurs alike. —C.J.F.
