The year 1934 saw a crime spree like no other, committed by a twosome that rank among the most infamous bank robbers in American history—Clyde Champion Barrow and Bonnie Parker. The murderous young couple from the middle of nowhere triggered an enormous manhunt across the Southern states, and has remained in the American psyche ever since. Thanks to the hit 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde, starring Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty, their hold on pop culture grew tighter still. In the late 2000s, the composer Frank Wildhorn, who wrote the music for the Broadway hit Jekyll & Hyde, teamed up with the lyricist Don Black (Aspects of Love, Sunset Boulevard). Their goal was to turn the bandits’ saga into a musical, though one set to a score combining rockabilly, blues, and gospel music. The show premiered in San Diego in 2009 to rave reviews, then went to Broadway and the West End. For a limited time, the show returns to the West End. This new production stars Frances Mayli McCann and Jordan Luke Gage. Nick Winston directs. —Jensen Davis
