In the 1970s, Bob Colacello was working as an editor at Interview magazine and also acting as Andy Warhol’s right-hand man. On one of his trips around the world with Warhol, Colacello bought a Minox camera, the kind used by spies during the Cold War. From then on he brought his Minox wherever he went, snapping pictures at the Factory, Studio 54, and even the White House. “I never planned or plotted any of this,” says Colacello. “I have, however, always followed my mother’s dictum: ‘When opportunity knocks, open the door!’” The exhibition “It Just Happened” documents years of open doors. —Clara Molot
