“I’m a visual artist based in Johannesburg, specializing in textile work,” says the artist Billie Zangewa. “I explore universal themes, predominantly happening around the home front—domestic scenes so to speak, or what I like to call ‘daily feminism’—by putting a focus on the things that women do at home that aren’t seen or appreciated or acknowledged.” Zangewa does her exploring with needle and thread, a skill women have been schooled in for centuries, and creates collages hand-stitched from pieces of raw silk. Her remarkable “paintings” are both delicate and moving. This exhibition includes work from the last 15 years. —L.J.
