The photographer William Wegman acquired his first Weimaraner—Man Ray—in the 1970s, and soon the dog was his muse, sitting for intimate, emotional portraits the way humans sat for Peter Hujar. “My Weimaraners are perfect fashion models,” Wegman has said. “Their elegant, slinky forms are covered in gray—and gray, everyone knows, goes with anything.” Fotografiska’s latest exhibition explores animals—from sphinx cats to guinea pigs to poodles—as subjects, collaborators, friends, and sources of inspiration. More than 100 images taken by 25 photographers, including Wegman, Jeff Koons, and Walter Chandoha (the world’s first professional cat photographer) are on view. —Jensen Davis
