June 11, 2024
20 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY 10020, United States

“Sunny” von Bülow was born Martha Sharp Crawford in her father’s personal railway carriage, in 1932. The heiress would live between places her whole life, floating through Manhattan society and Newport, Rhode Island, with her first husband, Prince Alfred von Auersperg, and later her second, Claus von Bülow. Sunny was known for her remarkable taste and exceptional jewelry, which included magnificent pearls, Van Cleef & Arpels brooches, and a spectacular emerald, ruby, and diamond necklace that centers on a Colombian emerald. In this auction, organized by Christie’s in collaboration with Sunny’s daughter, Ala von Auersperg Isham, 17 pieces of jewelry are on offer. —Elena Clavarino
