“Let us desire, conceive and create,” Walter Gropius writes in the Bauhaus founding manifesto, “the new building of the future together. It will combine architecture, sculpture and painting in a single form, and will one day rise toward the heavens from the hands of a million workers as the crystalline symbol of a new and coming faith.” You may have noticed by now that this is the year of Bauhaus—100 years since its founding in 1919, in Weimar, Germany.
