The conceptual artist and collagist Barbara Kruger, now 77, is one of our most forceful artists. Her black-and-white mass-media photographs feel as if they’re screaming at you. And in a way, they are. Concise and pithy comments in Helvetica extra-bold typeface overlay the images, confronting viewers with the words “you” and “I,” exposing power dynamics and ideas of doubt, desire, and agency. This summer at the Museum of Modern Art, Kruger is creating a large-scale sit-specific commission that will envelope the Donald and Catherine Marron Family Atrium, covering the walls and floors with printed vinyl in classic Kruger style. —Clara Molot
