The Kamionge Workshop began in the 1960s, when a group of Black photographers banded together to develop a different approach to image making. They studied technical production, history, and distribution to create an image archive of Black lives, putting a spotlight on the institutional neglect that had long sidelined their communities. In three Zoom workshops, each followed by an open Q&A and discussion, these very photographers cover the work of James Van Der Zee, Carrie Mae Weems, Lorna Simpson, Dawoud Bey, Lyle Ashton Harris, and many more, while shedding light on analog photography and darkroom techniques. —E.C.
