Anish Kapoor

July 12 – Nov 1, 2020
Bircham Rd, King's Lynn PE31 6TY, United Kingdom

A sculpture by Anish Kapoor occupies space like an alien presence—reflecting, questioning, and reinventing its surroundings. Think of Chicago’s silver “bean” statue, Cloud Gate, which playfully morphs the cityscape. Now, 21 Kapoor works come to Houghton Hall, the Norfolk estate built in the mid 1700s by Great Britain’s first prime minister. Pieces inside the home, including works in sandstone, and on the grounds—where Kapoor’s Sky Mirror (2018) is on display alongside a 2001–2003 marble series—are in singular conversation with Houghton’s historic architecture and pristine gardens. —J.V.
