Kyle Abraham, born in 1977, cites classical music as his first love, but participation in a high school musical changed his focus to dance. After college, he worked with the companies of David Dorfman and Bill T. Jones, and in 2006 he created his own company—Abraham.In.Motion, now called A.I.M. Abraham’s choreography has moved him steadily into the spotlight, bringing commissions from major companies, not to mention a MacArthur “genius” grant in 2013. In 2018, Abraham created The Runaway for the New York City Ballet, a big hit that was also a career-maker. Much in demand, Abraham comes to BAM with his own company in a new evening-length work. It’s called An Untitled Love and is set to the music of the neo-soul R&B artist D’Angelo. The work celebrates Black culture and community. —Laura Jacobs
