Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty—Gallery Views

Mar 26, 2020 – Aug 31, 2021
1000 5th Ave, New York, NY 10028, USA

“Savage Beauty,” on view at the Met Museum in 2011, was a brilliant display of fashion as psychology, as cultural iconography, as art. The curator of the exhibition, Andrew Bolton, narrates this eight-minute journey through the show, which moves eloquently from The Romantic Mind to Romantic Gothic to Romantic Nationalism and Naturalism; clearly, Bolton sees McQueen as a descendent of such English Romantics as Blake, Keats, and Coleridge. McQueen took his own life in 2010, at the age of 40, and the darkness in his imagination, as well as the leaps of light, can leave one speechless. If you missed the show, here’s a chance to see it from your desk. —L.J.
