Ai Weiwei is not afraid to mix his mediums. The Chinese artist moves his practice seamlessly across art, architecture, film, collecting, and curating. In collaboration with the Design Museum, he is organizing a show that uses his own work to explore the tension between past and present. Ai pairs historical Chinese artifacts with modern objects that speak to China’s current issues with demolition and overdevelopment. He works to make sense of our current value structure, and how we determine what matters. —Clara Molot
