Cy Gavin

Cy Gavin, Untitled (Marsh Marigolds), 2025.

7/F, Pedder Building, 12 Pedder St, Central, Hong Kong

Cy Gavin’s first exhibition in Asia showcases new works that reimagine our landscapes, galaxy, and the very particles that make it up and break it down. Living and working in New York City, Gavin is known to use unique mediums as well as canvases throughout his process. Tattoo ink, seeds, diamonds, colored sand, and staples have all been incorporated into his art. In recent projects, acrylic and vinyl have found their way onto unprimed slats of wood. In areas left unpainted, the wood grain is emphasized and plays a vital role in the result. At Gagosian in Hong Kong all of Gavin’s paintings are formatted to a perfect square so that viewers can interpret them from different angles. Vibrant tones and piercing brushstrokes mirror the effect of nature’s forces on outdoor vistas. —Henry McGrath
