Accidentally Wes Anderson: The Exhibition

Accidentally Wes Anderson.

Sept 21 – Nov 3, 2024
360 Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia

If you’re a fan of Wes Anderson, you’ve undoubtedly found your way to the “Accidentally Wes Anderson” Instagram profile. The page was conceived as a place to collect photographs that looked as if they were stills from Anderson’s films. What began as a hub for images with precise symmetry, popping pastel colors, and a sense of whimsy has since expanded to a brand. “Accidentally Wes Anderson” is behind a New York Times best-selling coffee-table book (authorized by the director), a set of adventure guides, and a traveling art show. “Accidentally Wes Anderson: The Exhibition,” now in Melbourne, includes seven themed rooms that provide “a personal passport to visual inspiration and adventure.” The exhibition is focused on photography but it is also immersive, in that the venue itself is designed to mimic the Andersonian universe. For those interested in the director’s aesthetic, this showcase is a must-see. —Jack Sullivan
