A Shift in Perspective: The Neues Museum Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary

Dec 12, 2019 – Jan 26, 2020
Bodestraße 1-3, 10178 Berlin, Germany

Construction of Berlin’s Neues Museum, which was designed to house ancient Egyptian artifacts and other antiquities, began in the 1840s and continued into the late 1850s. When the museum was bombed during W.W. II, it was left crumbling and exposed to the heavens, a forgotten relic. In 1997, however, plans for its restoration began. Under the direction of the award-winning architect David Chipperfield, the restoration was completed in 2009. To mark the 10th anniversary since its reopening, the Neues celebrates with a huge exhibition pulled from its own holdings. —E.C.
