For those in love, it’s a celebration. For those out of love, it’s a reminder. Luckily, this Valentine’s Day the Paris Theater offers two films that can be enjoyed by solos and duos alike. In the early evening, it’s showing Casablanca, Michael Curtiz’s 1942 masterpiece. The history books tell us that the movie was endlessly revised and no one saw a classic in the making. If you’ve seen it already, see it again; if you haven’t seen it, get thee to the Paris. Later in the night comes Amélie, the French-language romantic-comedy that became a worldwide success in 2001, the year of its release. Audrey Tautou stars as an endearing waitress who devotes herself to improving the lives of the people around her while suppressing her own loneliness. She eventually meets a man named Nino (Mathieu Kassovitz) and … well, this film was chosen for Valentine’s Day, after all. —Jack Sullivan
