During lockdown, Meriem Bennani and Orian Barki collaborated on a film that narrated the pandemic from the perspective of two animated lizards. It was one way to evoke the peculiarity of a New York City without people. The animatronic-looking lizards watch the sunset from a roof, muse about “confinement,” and drive around the city in masks. Initially, Bennani and Barki posted the videos in eight installments on Bennani’s instagram. For the Whitney Museum of Art, Bennani and Barki have edited the clips into a narrative film. —Jensen Davis
