What happens if you combine synthesized sounds played on 100 individual speakers with the almighty power of a 7,069-pipe organ—the Miller-Scott Organ, to be exact, housed in the Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue? You’ve got one night to find out, when Infinity Gradient, composed by Tristan Perich—a musician who takes inspiration from math, physics, and code—has its U.S. premiere. At the keyboard is the young English organist and pianist James McVinnie, who has collaborated with Philip Glass and Nico Muhly among others. The program is presented by Death of Classical in partnership with Concerts at Saint Thomas, and the evening offers two hour-long performances, one at seven P.M. and another at nine-thirty P.M.
