Before I get to your questions, I want to give a sartorial shout-out to Mauro Manzoni, the mayor of Varenna, a lovely fishing village on Lake Como. This past week he made it illegal for men (i.e., tourists) to walk the village’s streets shirtless or in swimwear. Violators will be fined as much as 200 euros.

All credit to Mayor Manzoni and Varenna for pushing back against the sloven-ization of society. Now if only Mayor Manzoni were given authority to regulate what people wear on airplanes …
