Marta Kostyuk is having the strongest year of her young career. At just 23, the Kyiv-born tennis star reached the semifinals of Roland-Garros. It was her best Grand Slam result to date, and it marked the culmination of a 17-match clay-court winning streak that tallied up titles in Rouen and Madrid, all of which amounted to a career-high ranking of 12. Roland-Garros also handed her a poignant high-visibility showcase: in the quarterfinals, Kostyuk met her compatriot Elina Svitolina in what would be the first all-Ukrainian matchup ever to transpire in the round of eight at a major.
Alongside her ascendant tennis rating, Kostyuk has also come to be known as one of the sport’s under-the-radar style fixtures. For one, she works closely with Wilson, her on-court sponsor, for her looks, which, in Wilson’s oeuvre, skew toward the classic, the clean, and the slightly preppy. Think: pleats, banded stripes, coordinated sets, and color-blocking (though the latter will be absent at the upcoming Wimbledon tournament, which continues to maintain a white-hue-only dress code). “I love to look good,” she says. “I always give feedback if I want something improved or changed, and they are always quick to respond. I am very happy with how things are…. They just make great stuff.”
