Australian style has its own kind of je ne sais quoi: a coolness that transcends aesthetics, balancing sophistication with ease and an undone glamour—sultry looks paired with fresh, radiant skin—that’s made labels like Rachel Gilbert, Rebecca Vallance, and Alex Perry red-carpet fixtures. “I would say the French are a little bit more polished and elevated chic, whereas Australia is very undone, very much thrown together,” says L.A.-based international luxury sourcer Gab Waller.
Waller says demand for Australian labels has accelerated in recent years, with clients increasingly requesting brands such as Zimmermann, Christopher Esber, Matteau, Venroy, and Sir. “Even just recently, one of my celebrity clients came to me and said, ‘You know, I’m planning my summer trip. Can you send me a list of Australian brands?’” she says.
