Call me crazy, but before we get to the clothes of spring 2027 at London Fashion Week, which just wrapped after several days and some very, very good shows—my heart beat that little bit faster at Erdem, Simone Rocha, Tolu Coker, Burberry, and Christopher Kane’s Mulberry debut—we’re going to talk about its cups. (This will all make sense in a moment, I promise.)
Specifically, the ribbed mug in six color ways which Jonathan Anderson of JW Anderson has done with Wedgwood, the English porcelain-maker that has been around since 1759, and which were unveiled at London’s newest and currently hippest hotel, the St. Clement. (Anderson has eschewed runway shows for his own brand, being a little busy at Dior in Paris dreaming up 101 ways to reimagine the Bar jacket.) The cups were made of Jasper stoneware using techniques almost as old as Wedgwood itself, and the mug’s design goes even further back, to fifth-century b.c. Greece, inspired by those in Anderson’s own collection of antiqued drinking vessels.
