Ring! Ring! London calling! Well, actually, Jonathan Anderson calling. On a cold day in his English country house, the creative director of Dior and creator of JW Anderson found himself gazing down at his beloved Uggs. Naturally, the prodigious fashion superstar’s first thought was to design a boot of his own.
Actually, make that two. He’s designed a moccasin and a low boot with the brand, each in three colors—fire-truck orange, olive, and classic Ugg beige. Only slightly different from Ugg’s classic model, the boot is embellished with a loafer-style saddle across the vamp. It makes sense for Anderson, for whom loafers have become a recurring motif: he launched the Loafer Bag in 2024 and has since added saddles to sandals and heels. I’m genuinely amused by the idea that he looked down at his Uggs and wished they looked more like loafers. Then again, it’s understandable that an Irish man living between Paris and London feels the need to gussy up a piece of fashion closely associated with its California roots. Let’s just say America’s casual coolness hasn’t totally made it to the other side of the Atlantic—it might never, so great designers do their best to find an in-between.
