Peter Marino needs little introduction. He’s the architect behind the Chanel Ginza Tower in Tokyo, Boontheshop in Seoul, and Paris’s Cheval Blanc—not to mention Dior boutiques around the world, including the renovation of their historic headquarters on Avenue Montaigne.

In the 1980s, he bought a house in Southampton. Thirty years later, in 2021, he opened an art foundation nearby, housed in a restored 19th-century Queen Anne-style building. There, Marino displays 200 works from his personal collection and hosts temporary exhibitions. On view now are 90 photographs by Wolfgang Tillmans, a show of Viennese works, including pieces by Josef Hoffmann and Gustav Klimt, and 30 works by Andy Warhol.

Here, the architect shares his guide to the eastern tip of Long Island.

BRIDGEHAMPTON CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL

I’m very inspired by classical music and often treat my projects the way a composer would approach a piece. The Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival hosts a delightful summer series of concerts around the East End. (bcmf.org)

MARDERS NURSERY

I usually make a trip to Marders, in Bridgehampton, on Saturday mornings. Kathleen and Charlie Marder, who have been running it since the 1970s, know so much. They have all sorts of flowering fruit trees, and a garden shop, too. (marders.com)

Southampton Playhouse

Recently renovated, this movie theater is a great addition to the community. They show a mix of classics and newly released films, and also host talks with directors and actors. The screening rooms, one of which is an IMAX, are state-of-the-art. (southamptonplayhouse.com)

The rose is the official flower of Southampton, and the Southampton Rose Society created the rose pavilion on the grounds of the Roger’s Memorial Library as a gift to the townspeople and village. This charming garden is free and open to the public for all to enjoy. (southamptonrose.org)
