Zoya Cherkassky: Lost Time

Streaming on Fort Gansevoort

Zoya Cherkassky’s exhibition “Soviet Childhood” is on the Fort Gansevoort website and now a second exhibition—impromptu and virtual—has gone up to coincide with Passover. Answering the title “Lost Time,” Cherkassky is building the show with a new drawing added every day, all of them looking at the current pandemic through the lens of Eastern Europe before W.W. II, thus accentuating shared themes of religious ritual, family, sacrifice, and loss. She is joined in her explorations by the curator Alison Gingeras, who responds to Cherkassky’s pictures with her own interpretations and musings. It’s a lovely two-part invention between image and word. —L.J.
