There are many mysteries surrounding Qiu Ying, who is thought to have lived from 1494 to 1552, and is the most copied of all Ming dynasty painters. He is said to have been illiterate, yet his works show perfect handwriting. The particulars of his life are mostly unknown, yet today he is the most well known artist of his time. In an unprecedented exhibition outside Asia, works by Qiu and his contemporaries will be on display. Here’s a chance to explore the enigmatic man who has puzzled the world for centuries. —E.C.
