George Floyd’s death this year was the tragedy that brought momentum to the Black Lives Matter movement. Protests erupted across the country, and soon enough, so did cries for justice around the world. But after this momentous year, the Vancouver Art Gallery asks, “Where do we go from here?” For an art institution, re-evaluating art history and challenging traditional methods of representation is a first step. In this exhibition, curator Nya Lewis of BlackArt Gaston looks to the future and encourages other curators to do the same. Newly acquired works, and pieces on loan, present a more inclusive picture of the Canadian art landscape. Among the artists in the show are Jessie Ado, Rebecca Bair, Lauren Brevner, and Gabi Dao. —E.C.
