Waxahatchee Performs Saint Cloud

Critics first fell for Katie Crutchfield in 2007, with the emergence of P.S. Eliot, a feminist punk band she and her twin sister founded when they were teenagers. Hearts were broken when the lauded duo disbanded in 2011, but hopes were revived when Crutchfield started performing again as Waxahatchee, a bare-bones country act named after a river in her hometown. Though radically different, Waxahatchee swiftly eclipsed P.S. Eliot’s critical praise. Her fifth and latest album, Saint Cloud, is a prodigious return to the songwriter’s Southern roots, drawing heavy inspiration from Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, and the like. This streamed performance is a virtual continuation of Waxahatchee’s cancelled tour. —C.J.F.
