Since the arrival of the new millennium, when he moved to New York City to become a Broadway star, the actor Gavin Creel has earned multiple Tony nominations, landing the award in 2017 for his role in Hello, Dolly! And yet, not once during that time did he visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2019, the museum invited Creel to explore the collection and create something inspired by it. The result, Walk On Through, plops the audience into his delayed exploration of the Met’s collection. The show features 17 pop-inspired songs and stars Creel. His favorite works, such as paintings by the artists Pierre-Auguste Cot and Lucas Cranach the Elder, are projected behind him as he sings. —Jensen Davis
