Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya is having a moment. Last fall, Steve Carell starred in a Lincoln Center production of the play while Andrew Scott portrayed the same character across the Atlantic, in London. Scott brings his one-man version to New York’s Lucille Lortel Theater this spring, but not before the writer and director Matthew Gasda unveils his own spin on the classic tale. Gasda is known for Dimes Square, his popular 2022 play about the “backstabbing New York media types” who populate a trendy corner of Manhattan’s Chinatown. Gasda’s Vanya on Huron Street features a new translation of Chekhov’s narrative by Albina Aleksandrova. —Jeanne Malle
