The names Viktor and Rolf can make you think of a pair of magicians, like Penn and Teller, or of circus ringmasters such as Siegfried and Roy. There is something magical about their work, and sometimes it’s a bit of a circus, though more Cirque du Soleil than Barnum & Bailey. Viktor and Rolf are Dutch fashion designers who’ve been a team since they graduated from the Arnhem Academy of Art and Design, in 1992. They prefer to call themselves “fashion artists,” and their work floats somewhere between fashion and wearable art. This exhibition in Atlanta originated in Munich, and it’s the duo’s first major museum retrospective. More than 100 designs from the last 30 years, supported by videos, photographs, dolls, tapestries, and sketches, make this inventive big-top show travel-worthy and transporting. The High Museum of Art is its only U.S. venue. —Laura Jacobs
