There has been no shortage of podcasts on the shocking case of the Long Island serial killer, but Alexis Linkletter’s Unraveled has always told a slightly different story. She focused on the Suffolk County Police Department, arguing that corruption at the highest level was an unavoidable piece of the puzzle. Two years since her last episode and with “prime suspect” Rex Heuermann now charged with the murders of the “Gilgo Four,” Linkletter reopens her own investigation. She begins by speaking with a forensic-DNA expert, the suspect’s Massapequa Park neighbors, and one of the victim’s sisters. The key elements of the case—mitochondrial-DNA evidence, cell-phone data, and law-enforcement blunders—are revealed. And with more new episodes to come, Linkletter narrows in on her original question: Why did it take more than a decade to find the killer? —Paulina Prosnitz
