In 2018, Tyler Mitchell photographed Beyoncé for the cover of Vogue’s always awaited September issue. Wearing a white dress and a large floral headdress à la Frida Kahlo, the pop star gazed cooly into the camera’s lens. At only 23, Mitchell was the first Black artist to shoot a Vogue cover—an important milestone. Since then, he’s gone on to work in both fine art and fashion photography. In this exhibition, not far from the Atlanta suburb where Mitchell grew up and first began shooting skateboarders with a Canon camera, more than 30 of his recent photographs investigate themes of masculinity, motherhood, and domesticity. —Elena Clavarino
