Just as Orhan Pamuk considers himself “Istanbul’s storyteller,” so his friend Ara Güler, the photojournalist who passed away last year, might be considered Istanbul’s visual chronicler. He was, after all, known to many as “the Eye of Istanbul.” Pulling work from the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art as well as the newly opened Ara Güler Museum, this exhibition presents a history of the Turkish capital city through the lens of one of its most piercing recorders. —J.V.
