If truth is an unmade bed, Tracey Emin has pulled back the sheets. Since the early 1990s, Emin’s insistence on honesty, at times brutal, has been the subject of much controversy. In this exhibition, Emin’s first Scottish show since 2008, the theme is hope after hardship. New work is presented both indoors and outdoors. Indeed, the centerpiece of the show is Emin’s massive bronze sculpture from 2018, I Lay Here for You, a woman lying on her stomach, her legs open, her hands clenched beneath her body. It is as powerfully self possessed as anything by Rodin. Emin sited the piece in the Jupiter Artland woodlands, in a grove of lilting beech trees. —Elena Clavarino
