The Trojan Women Project Festival

Dec 5–15, 2019
66 E 4th St, New York, NY 10003

“If you commit yourself to the possibility that everything is music, then you commit yourself to the possibility that every sound you make has meaning,” says Onni Johnson, project director of The Trojan Women Project Festival. Debuted in 1974, the project performed the ancient plays Medea, Electra, and The Trojan Women in ancient Greek and ancient Swahili. Furthering its exploration of a universal language and themes of war and gendered violence, the Project traveled to sites of conflict, where it performed and taught theater. La MaMa hosts a revival of The Trojan Women for the Project’s 45th anniversary, one that has been reimagined by artistic collaborators from Guatemala, Kosovo, and Cambodia. —C.J.F.
