Ryan Murphy’s latest Netflix production is his most star-studded to date, with Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, and James Corden getting top billing. The trio plays a group of self-absorbed New York City actors—The Prom is adapted from a 2018 Broadway musical—who decide to rehab their images by taking up the cause of Emma, an Indiana teenager whose high school won’t allow same-sex prom dates. The movie mixes Murphy’s signature camp—Streep, particularly, goes to town—with a touching tale that, though treacly at times, is well worth a watch. —C.J.F.
