The stunning textile traditions of Breton have accented the region’s natural beauty for centuries. This exhibition displays 200 years of fashions from Breton, with a special spotlight on the seaside town of Finistère, which is known for its diversity in cuts, fabrics, and dyes. Domestic textiles abound—the elegantly simple linen shirt, diligently hand-embroidered lace—as do ornate and colorful ceremonial costumes from both the pagan Northern countryside and the Bigouden country in the south. Demonstrating the enduring influence of Breton’s textile heritage, the exhibition includes contemporary French designs inspired by ancestral Brittany. —C.J.F.
