The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart

Sigourney Weaver in The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.

“Acting can sometimes be a battle between intellect and instinct,” explains Kyle Buchanan in his New York Times profile of the American actress Sigourney Weaver. “And by either measure … [she] is formidable.” Published in 2022, the article goes on to describe the way Weaver combines acting skill with an intuition for roles that suit her. For this reason, one can be assured that the series The Lost Flowers of Alice Heart, in which Weaver stars, lies in good hands. Premiering on Amazon Video and described as a story of ever-deepening deceit, it focuses on nine-year-old Alice, who loses her parents in a “mysterious” fire and is then raised by her grandmother, June (Weaver). The secrecy begins there. Based on a novel by the Australian author Holly Ringland, the series is directed by Glendyn Ivin, who sounded similar chords in Last Ride. Expect seven dramatic, charged, and ultimately affecting episodes. —Jack Sullivan
