Over the last 30 years, the story of O. J. Simpson has been told and retold in formats that include Simpson’s own hypothetical tell-all If I Did It, published in 2007, and the 2016 Emmy-winning drama The People v. O. J. Simpson. The same attention has not been paid to Nicole Simpson’s side of the story. The Life & Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson, a four-part docuseries from Lifetime, aims to correct that imbalance. Speaking with Nicole’s close friends and family, and incorporating home videos, archival interviews, and her own letters and diaries, the series traces the couple’s whirlwind romance to the later domestic abuse. While it sheds fresh light on the events surrounding the murder, the show’s most important achievement is in separating the Nicole of the tabloid headlines and courtroom dramas from the real Nicole: a devoted mother, caring sister, and loyal friend. —Paulina Prosnitz
