Lehman Brothers collapsed nearly 15 years ago, but the consequences of the subprime mortgage crisis, which the firm helped create, still reverberate. To tell the story of the epic financial collapse, playwright Stefano Massini starts at the very beginning: 1844, when Henry Lehman was just off the boat from Bavaria. From the Lehmans’ humble beginning to their humbling end, we travel 164 years in in three hours and 20 minutes. The play now returns to London, five years after its British debut. Michael Balogun, Hadley Fraser, and Nigel Lindsay play three generations of Lehmans. Sam Mendes directs, again. —Jensen Davis
