Your favorite messy monarchs are back, and no, it’s not Charles and Camilla. Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult return for the third season of The Great, the satirical black comedy in which they star as Catherine the Great and Peter III in a self-described “occasionally true” telling of the German-born empress’s ascent to the throne. Created by the Australian playwright Tony McNamara (co-writer of The Favourite), the show’s third season brims with the irreverent, crass, and laugh-out-loud moments that made its first two seasons such a success. For instance: see two ambassadors, American and British, nearly brawling over the spelling of color/colour; or the highly-anticipated duel between two aristocratic eight year olds; and, of course, lots of inappropriate, extremely public sex.
