When will Ryan Gosling return to Earth? After dazzling as Ken in Barbie and stealing the show on Oscar night, he’s now delivered another impressive performance in The Fall Guy, an action comedy directed by David Leitch. Gosling plays Colt Seavers, a stunt-double who jumps and tumbles for Tom Ryder, a thinly veiled parody of a real-life star who’s also named “Tom.” On set, Colt falls victim to a freak accident that forces him out of Hollywood and away from his camerawoman girlfriend, Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt). More than a year passes and Jody, now his ex, is directing her first film. Its producer wants Colt out of retirement to perform as Ryder’s double once more. Just after Colt arrives on the set, it is revealed that Ryder has in fact disappeared—and The Fall Guy is off to the races as Colt becomes embroiled in a murder mystery, a romantic comedy, and a thriller.
