The Alexander Calder Archives

“The underlying sense of form in my work has been the system of the Universe,” said the artist Alexander Calder, “or part thereof.” Before his death in 1976, Calder evoked space and physics in his wire sculptures, where suspension and kinetics tell of invisible forces. In a new platform by the Calder Foundation, visitors can browse his work, both delicate and monumental, in its entirety. Sculptures, public collections, and exhibitions from the past and present, and from around the world, are captured in HD. Users can also read about Calder’s life, browse through different locations, and even click through a virtual tour of a new exhibition at New York’s MoMA, “Modern from the Start.” —E.C.
