The town square as a cornerstone of society has changed. Once upon a time, town squares were a bustling spot for social gatherings and solidarity, a place to be summoned by leaders both great and small. Today’s square is often divided and confusing. On it 50th anniversary, MMCA uses video, installations, photography, and performance to explore the four-cornered center of our towns and cities. —E.C.
