Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated spy-fi film, which makes time its subject, did not debut at theaters this year as expected. Neither did any other movie. The pandemic sent schedules out the window, to be replaced with stasis, pauses, delays. Inspired by this change in temporality, Jibade-Khalil Huffman, Moyra Davey, Yu Honglei, and Steffani Jemison each made a film that uses slow motion, rewinding, repetition, fast forwarding, and splicing to explore time. Each film, on view for a week only, creates a sense of interruption and dislocation not dissimilar to what we’ve all been experiencing. —E.C.
